London Care Record

To help Londoners understand the London Care Record, Animated Healthcare created a 3D animated film built from a bespoke system of care icons, translating data-sharing into something visual, calm, and unmistakably human.

Icons of Care

The London Care Record 3D animation begins where public understanding actually starts - with care, people, and everyday healthcare moments. The system itself is powerful: a secure, city-wide record that allows authorised health and social-care professionals to view essential information across different providers. But power alone doesn’t build trust. Visibility does.

Animated Healthcare was tasked with making the London Care Record understandable at a glance. Not as infrastructure, but as a lived experience, something that supports better decisions, smoother care, and joined-up services across London.

The brief demanded restraint. In healthcare communication, clarity is earned through calm, not noise. The animation needed to reassure without oversimplifying, explain without overwhelming, and remain accessible to a broad public audience.

The Challenge

Most people never see healthcare systems working. They only feel the consequences when information is missing, delayed, or fragmented. Explaining a shared care record means explaining absence, the problems it prevents rather than the technology itself.

The NHS needed to communicate three things at once:

1. That information is shared securely

2. That access is controlled and appropriate

3. That this sharing leads to safer, faster, more coordinated care

The challenge was to do this without invoking fear, suspicion, or technical confusion. Any hint of opacity would undermine the message. Any excess detail would lose the audience.

The animation had to move at human speed and speak in human terms.

Outcome & Impact

The finished film gave the NHS a calm, accessible way to explain the London Care Record to the public, not as an abstract database, but as a practical tool that supports better care.

Beyond the animation itself, the icon system was adopted across additional campaign materials, extending its value well beyond the screen. What began as a single film became a cohesive visual identity for the wider communication, consistent, recognisable, and adaptable.

The result is communication that doesn’t demand attention. It earns it. By making the invisible visible, the animation helps audiences understand how care works when systems work together.
